How quickly does mesothelioma progress?

It takes 30 to 40 years for mesothelioma to develop as a result of asbestos exposure but once mesothelioma develops, it quickly progresses to involve other organs and spreads to other areas of the body. It is very aggressive and treatment must be sought immediately to limit the growth of cancer. The rapidity of cancer progression varies from patient to patient. It also depends on individual immune status and response to treatment etc. There is an ongoing search for markers that could predict the progression of cancer and patient survival.
