Should I return to work, and when?

Whether or not you can return to work depends on many things. One main consideration is the type of work you do, and how physically demanding your job is. You and your doctor should discuss what limitations you have at any given time and whether or not you can do your particular job.

If your job is not too physically demanding, you need to think about how you feel. Do you want to return to work? If you fell well enough physically, and your job is something you enjoy, or you really want to feel like things are more normal, you can probably go back to work. If you have a job in which your coworkers are supportive, it might really help the way you feel.

If your job is stressful and you dread going back to work, you probably should not. If you don’t want to answer questions and the people you work with tend to not be supportive, you may not want to go back to work unless you feel very well.

Beyond health considerations are financial considerations. Hopefully you know if you have sick leave, disability insurance (private, state or federal) or other options. Ideally, your decision whether or not to try and work should not have to be financial.
